Art in Bloom MIA Love

Thank you to everyone who came out to see our Executive Director’s piece at Art in Bloom at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA)! It was so wonderful to celebrate the visual arts through flowers, talk about the power of portrait photography, our shared humanity, and appreciate this amazing photograph from Pao houa Her.

If you are unfamiliar with Art in Bloom, it is an event that is hosted once a year in the spring by MIA for 4 days. 150 volunteer floral artists are selected through a lottery to interpret an assigned museum piece using flowers. This year had over 60,000 visitors for Art in Bloom!

Some things to note about Ceallaigh’s piece:

  • The center flower that represents the woman is a peace lily.

  • The greenhouse structure represents the Como Park Conservatory where the photo was taken.

  • The fabric underneath represents her clothing and also shows honor to Hmong culture’s use of embroidery.

Crowds waiting to enter the museum on opening day!
